Our Pittsfield location was opened in 1976 as Plattner Funeral Home. Several years later, in 1980, it was purchased by 3rd generation Director, Mike Lummis. Mike had followed in the footstep of his grandpa (G. B. Lummis, 1914 Mortuary School graduate), and his father John B. Lummis (1951 graduate). Mike had already been in Pike County having purchased the Ward Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill in 1974 and the Gill Funeral Home In Barry. Ill health forced Mike to retire from the business and in 1993, Terry Airsman bought what is now the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home. Currently, 4th generation Director, J. Scott Lummis, is just one of the directors who continues to serve the families of Pike County in their time of need.
Becky McCartney of Pittsfield joined the Airsman-Hires Family in early 2014 as the Family Services Coordinator for Pike County. Her focus is to serve your family and provide any support services needed. She assists the Directors and meets with families or individuals who are interested in making Pre-Arrangements for their funeral services.
Becky was raised in a Christian home in the small community of Chapin, Illinois, where everyone knew everybody and you were treated like family. She credits her "small town upbringing" with teaching her the importance of Loyalty, Community, Faith and Family. She grew up with loving parents who allowed her to leave the house after breakfast to play with friends and to return home when "the street lights came on." "It was a simpler time and that's how we communicated!" Having lost her parents and her brother at a young age was part of her motivation for joining the Airsman-Hires family. "It is an honor to serve families and assist while they celebrate life. I am touched every day by the stories they share. To be able to do this in Pike County is a blessing."
Becky currently lives in rural Griggsville with her husband David and 4 children.

Randy graduated from Carrollton High School with the Class of 1981. After earning his degree in Photographic Technology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Randy spent several years living and working in Texas. He decided his work in Texas wasn't fulfilling, and returned to Carrollton, where his father, Jess Hires, told him he could work around the funeral home until he figured out what it was he wanted to do with his life. Two years later Randy earned his Funeral Director's license from SIU-C and has never looked back.
Randy spent 25 years serving the communities of Pittsfield and Griggsville. In 2011, Randy moved east to serve the families of Waverly, Palmyra, and the surrounding communities. Randy is involved in the Masonic Lodge, volunteers with the Waverly and Franklin Lions Clubs, and enjoyes electronics, motorcycles, music, and hockey. He is an accomplished drummer.
