Evalyn L. Mathews, age 78 of Roodhouse, died Monday, June 5, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born February 22, 1939 in Murrayville , the daughter of Leverette “Bud” and Helen M. Disney Benner. She married Bob C. Mathews July 6, 1958 in Roodhouse, and he preceded her in death December 26, 2011.
She is survived by her three daughters; Tamra D. (husband Scott) Roberts of Girard, Bobett M. (husband Brenn) Dunphy of White Hall, and Angela K. Mathews of Norris, Tennessee. There are five grandchildren; Chelsea (husband Jason) Arndt, Blaine (wife Leah) Roberts,Logan Roberts, Bethany Dunphy (fiance’ Colin Noel) and Brennan Dunphy. Evalyn also enjoyed her great grandchildren ; Tinley and Turk Arndt, and Jack and Maci Roberts.
Evalyn graduated from Roodhouse High School in 1957 and continued being active in organizing their class reunions. She worked at the Roodhouse Envelope Company as an operator and inspector, retiring in 2001. She was a member of Women of the Moose, helped for many years delivering Meals on Wheels in Roodhouse, and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Roodhouse where she had served as a Sunday School teacher. Evalyn loved country line dancing, and was involved with the Bootkickers of Jacksonville, and the County Line Dancers of Carrollton. She also enjoyed shopping, her pets Darcy and Patches, and of course, her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse with burial to follow at Fernwood Cemetery.
