Edward Alan "Ed" Korte


Edward Alan Korte, 54, of Winchester died suddenly September 27, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Korte was born July 12, 1963 in Alton. He attended Marquette Catholic High School in Alton. He played baseball and football for 4 years and held the record of a 70 yard punt that stood for 10 years. He was also part the state champion baseball team. He continued his education at Quincy University, graduating with Bachelors degree in Business Management. Ed was the sole campus bookstore manager during his college years and was a member of the Golf team at QU.

He was preceded in death by his mother Delores Schuenke Korte.

Surviving is his wife Kathy Sansone (Sauer) Korte of 27 years, his son Edward Alan Korte Jr (E.J.) at home, his father and step-mother Harold and Margaret Korte, siblings Brad (Beth) Korte of Alton, Jim Korte of St. Louis, Carol Korte of Dallas, TX, Paul Korte of St. Louis, Henry Korte of Godfrey, Nancy (Chris) Bruce of Godfrey, step siblings Missy (Rick) Gibson, David (Laura) Dixon, Suzanne (Rob) Schwartz all of Godfrey and several nieces, nephews and the family black lab “Shadow” was a special joy.

Ed worked in management for over 30 years, most recently with Larson Manufacturing and currently with Reynolds as a supervisor.

He thoroughly enjoyed making others laugh, was a talented comedian having been voted “Class Clown” in high school. He was a fine golfer and enjoyed sharing the game with his son E.J. and they also spent time fishing together. He was a loyal friend to many and would help anyone at any time. He dearly loved his wife and son with all his heart.  Ed was a member of the Jacksonville and Godfrey Knights of Columbus.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am Monday October 2, 2017 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Winchester. Burial will be in St. Mark’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Sunday Oct. 1, 2017 from 4 until 6 pm at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. A prayer service will be held at 3:45. Memorials can be made to the E.J.
