Larry L. Gibbs, 65, of Modesto passed away Friday, November 10, 2017 at Pana Community Hospital in Pana. He was born August 9, 1952 in Springfield the son of Marvin and JoAnn French Gibbs. He married Jenny Colburn on November 26, 1997 in Carlinville and she survives.
He is also survived by his mother, JoAnn Gibbs of Modesto; two sons, Larry, Jr. (Tonya) Gibbs and Justin (Ashlee) Gibbs both of Carlinville; one daughter, Anne (David) Lancaster of Gillespie; one step-son, Cody Colburn of Bloomington; 7 grandchildren, Brayton, Lynde, Caden, Gus and Sylvee Gibbs, Blane and Dawson Lancaster; one brother, Rick (Marsha) Gibbs of Loami; one sister, Donna (Martin) Landes of Palmyra; several nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Beverly Cox of Jacksonville and his sister-in-law, Debbie (Wenc) Czernecki of Brimfield. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Gibbs.
Larry worked as truck driver for Passalacqua and Powell Trucking in Palmyra. He was a member of the Modesto Christian Church, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s athletic events, trail riding, hunting, going to antique tractor shows, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and working on the family farm. He loved visiting with people and never met a stranger.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the Modesto Christian Church in Modesto with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra. The family will meet friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Modesto Christian Church, the Partnership For Excellence in Gillespie, Carlinville High School Scholarship or the Macoupin County Animal Shelter.
