Obituary of William Shipley

William Francis Shipley, Sr., age 75 of Roodhouse, died Sunday, August 14, 2016 at his residence. He was born March 13, 1941 in Roodhouse, the son of Francis and Learta Shipley. He married Mary Monroe Vestel November 30, 2002 at Roodhouse, and she survives.

Bill is also survived by eight children; Jacklyn Shipley of Quincy, Lorrie Shipley of Roodhouse, Sarah (husband Dale) Chapman of Roodhouse, Melissa Gray of Murrayville, Donnie Shipley of White Hall, Mark (wife Shannon) Shipley of Springfield, MO, Billy (wife Ashley) Shipley, Jr., of Roodhouse, and Pete (wife Dustie) Shipley of White Hall. There are two step children, James (wife Doris) Vestel, and Janis (husband Richard) Gilleland, both of White Hall. Also surviving are 27 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Bill has two sisters, Roseanne (husband William) Monroe of Mt. Sterling, and Alberta (husband Rev. Paul ) Elliott of White Hall, and a brother, Lyndle (wife Brenda Shipley) of Roodhouse, and his former wife Laverna Shipley of Roodhouse.

Bill worked many years at McCartney’s Standard Station in Roodhouse. He loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing and trapping. His family, especially his children and grandchildren, were his pride and joy. He was a member of New Life Church in White Hall.

Private interment will be at Williams-Edwards Cemetery west of Barrow.
