Obituary of Helyett Jones

Helyett Caroline Jones, age 95 of Roodhouse died Tuesday, August 31, 2016 at White Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born October 10, 1920 in Oran, Algeria, North Africa, the daughter of Charles and Antoinette Lauribe Pascual. She married James A. Jones January 22, 1945 in Oran, Algeria and he passed away May 20, 1985.

She is survived by one daughter, Nancy (Carl) Ehlert of Roodhouse, one son Dick (Lisa) Jones of Roodhouse, five grandchildren, Beth (John) Stankoven of St. Peters, MO, Kristen (Brad) Constable of Pittsfield, Trista (Andy) Manar of Bunker Hill, Aimee (Drew) Forrester of Roodhouse, Rodney (Angela) Jones of Colorado, and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Charles Pascual (surviving wife Lucienne of Dax, France).

Helyett worked at Coffman Drug Store and King Freeze in Roodhouse, and then was a cook in the North Greene Junior High Schools for 16 years. Over the years, she has visited many organizations as a featured speaker where she has showed her souvenirs from Oran, including the beautiful linens made by her mother and grandmother, and described her life in North Africa. She has also visited often in French classrooms here to help the students learn to speak well, and tutored French teachers as well. She enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, quilting, and traveling with her many friends. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan. She was a member of the Roodhouse Methodist Church since 1946 and currently a member of Christ Methodist Church in White Hall, she also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, the Women’s Club and Delta Sorority.
