Obituary of Velma Ambrose

Velma M. Ambrose, 96, of Carlinville, formerly of Scottville, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at Carlinville Rehabilitation and Health Care. She was born Jan. 1, 1920, in West Memphis, AR, a daughter of Homer and Jessie Paris Harding. She married Coy Wayne Ambrose Feb. 17, 1943, in Bowling Green, MO and he preceded her in death July 7, 2000.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet (George) Dixon of Colchester, two sons, David (Patty) Ambrose of Carlinville, Terry (Lana) Ambrose of Florissant, MO; five grandchildren, Todd and Matt Dixon, Wade and Ryan Ambrose, Lisa Templeton; 11 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Carroll Woolfolk. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Elden Patterson, and two brother's , who died in infancy.

She graduated from Scottville High School in 1938. She was a 4-H leader for many years and taught many area youngsters how to sew. She helped prepare taxes in the Scottville area for many years. She enjoyed painting, sewing, and most of all spending time with her family. She was active in the Home Extension Project for several years. She was a member of the Scottville Christian Church.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016 at the Scottville Christian Church with burial to follow in Panther Creek Cemetery near Scottville. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra. Memorials may be made to Scottville Christian Church or Northwestern Rescue Squad.
