Obituary of Doris Bell

Doris M. Bell, 100 of Griggsville passed away early Wednesday morning November 9, 2016 at Eastside Health and Rehab in Pittsfield.

She was born August 3, 1916 in New Salem the daughter of the late Charles and Grace Moore Bell. Doris graduated from New Salem High School and was a 74 year member of the Griggsville United Methodist Church, serving actively on the Activities Committee, Dorcas Circle, United Methodist Women group and almost every other committee at the church; she taught Sunday school for 40 years and helped everywhere she could, and providing fresh flowers for the altar each Sunday.

She loved her church and church family. She was a member of the Pike County Home Extension, Abbie Hatch Chautauqua Circle, and the Griggsville Needlecraft group, where she made quilts and comforters for several children’s homes for Christmas. She worked many years at the Brown Shoe factory.

Surviving is her sister Mary Bell Wilcoxson of Littleton, Colorado, 5 nieces, Suzanne Murphy Auman, Nancy Bell Johnson, Sara Wilcoxson, Melinda Murphy Rexford and Becky Murphy Brady, 1 nephew David Wilcoxson, 6 great Nieces, 1 great great niece and 4 great great nephews.

Preceding her in death was a sister Florence Bell Murphy, 2 brothers Charles W. “Junior” Bell and Ray Bell.

A funeral service will be held at 1 pm Tuesday November 15 at the Griggsville United Methodist Church. Burial will be Griggsville Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from noon until the time of the service. Memorials can be made to the Griggsville United Methodist Church.
