Obituary of Phyllis Alred

Phyllis Imogene (Woosley) Alred, age 93, of Roodhouse, IL passed away at 2:39

am Tuesday, November 29,2016 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

following a brief illness.

She was born in Winchester, Illinois, on November 15, 1923, the daughter of

Anson Oral and Grace Mae (Anders) Woosley. She married Joseph S. Alred on

December 23, 1944 in McAllen, Texas, and he preceded her in death on April 24,

1997.

She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Palermo of Wood River, IL; daughters

Victoria (James) Hiatt of Alton, IL, Cody Ahern of La Plata, MD, and Deborah

(James) Everhart of Mechanicsville, MD. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren:

Laura Page (Steve) Selby of Godfrey, IL, Melissa (Brian) Schmitz of Milton, GA,

Scott Ahern, of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Jennifer (Mark) Gandee of Swann Point,

MD; and Chuck Vinyard of Hoffman Estates, IL as well as 8 great grandchildren:

Michael, Daniel, and Emily Selby; Ingrid Schmitz; Ryan, Haley, and Hagen

Gandee; Charlie Vinyard, and several nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Oral "Boe"

Woosley and Donald F Woosley, sister-in-law Irene M. Woosley, brother-in-law

Paul J Palermo, and son-in-law Gale D. Ahern

During World War II she was employed by Western Cartridge in Alton, IL. When

she and Joe married, they spent several memorable years in the Army Air Corp.

Phyllis enjoyed being a homemaker and was also employed by Dr. Ludwig Dech,

Roodhouse, IL for several years. She loved all animals and enjoyed feeding her

squirrels. She was a longstanding member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Family will meet friends at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, Roodhouse at 10:30 am

Saturday, December 3 followed by graveside service at 12:00 noon at Fernwood Cemetery in Roodhouse. Reverend Gary Coates will officiate. Memorials may be

made to Illinois Veterans' Home, Quincy, IL or Chaddock Children's Foundation,
