Obituary of Anna Hays

Anna Hays, age 78, of Springfield, Il. and formerly of New Berlin, Il. died early Tuesday (January 24, 2017) at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Il.

She was born October 12, 1938 in Hammond, In. daughter of the late John and Jenny Zandstra Bouwman.

She married James L. Hays on August 25, 1962 in Lansing, Il. and he preceded her in death on January 9, 2016.

Surviving are her children, Linda S. Mattson of Springfield, Il. and Glen A. Hays (Monica) of Buffalo, Il.; four grandchildren, Cassie Ann Mattson of Springfield, Il., Joshua Cade Mattson of New Berlin, Il., Lynette Marie Hays and Vance Owen Hays both of Buffalo, Il.; two sisters, Gertrude Bos of Spring Lake, MI. and Henrietta Klomp of Crete, Il.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Anna graduated Thornton Fractional High School in Lansing, Il. She helped her husband in his plumbing business, Hays Plumbing, in Springfield, Il. for many years. She was a member of Parkway Christian Church in Springfield, Il. and loved gospel music, especially Bill Gaither. Anna was also a past Cub Scout leader as well as a volunteer at King’s Daughter’s Home in Springfield, Il. She was raised in, as well as married in, the First Reformed Church in Lansing, Il. moving from Lansing, Il. in 1963. Anna enjoyed crossword puzzles, word searches, picture puzzles, and playing board games and cards with her grandchildren. She loved chocolate covered cherries and could be found watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy while doing latch hooks. Anna was an avid Cubs fan and was known for spoiling her grandkids.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday (January 28, 2017) at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly, Il. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery near Modesto, Il. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen Foundation c/o Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, 349 Tanner, Waverly, Il. 62692.
