Obituary of Gary Brown

Gary W. “Buckshot” Brown, age 76, of Sunset Home in Quincy, Il. and formerly of Palmyra, Il. and Jacksonville, Il. died Wednesday (January 11, 2017) at Sunset Home.

He was born January 1, 1941 in Jacksonville, Il. son of the late Ralph and Lucy Buchanan Brown.

Surviving are his children, Julia Brown of Alton, Il., Jennifer Ontiveros of West Melbourne, Fl. and James Brown of Quincy, Il.; three grandchildren, Kelton Scoggins of Alton, Il., and Madison and Gabriella Ontiveros of West Melbourne, Fl.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Shirley Dexter.

Gary was a graduate of Northwestern High School in Palmyra, Il. and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed with the Morgan County Sheriff's office in Jacksonville, IL in the 1970's, and served as Chief of Police in Palmyra, IL in the early 90's. Gary retired in the mid-2000 after serving as a police officer for several years with the Galena, IL police department. Gary loved raising horses and playing pool.

Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday (February 3, 2017) at Pulliam Cemetery near Modesto, Il. Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly, Il. is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.airsman-hires.com.
