Obituary of Laverne Stringer

Laverne M. Stringer, 94, of Carrollton died on Saturday March 4, 2017 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville.

Born in Woodville Twp. on Jan. 10, 1923, she was the daughter of the late James Golder and Thelma Marie (Taylor) Hires. She married Raymond Stringer on Jan. 17, 1942 in St. Charles, MO and he preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1996. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law: Sandy and “Buck” Gross of Carrollton, 3 grandsons and their wives: Terry and Maliea Gross of Carrollton, Tony and Jill Gross of Quincy, Marty and Sarah Gross of Carrollton, 4 great-grandchildren: LeeAnn Cunningham, Levi (wife Jennifer) Gross, Amanda and Olivia Gross, 3 great-great grandchildren: Conner, Aiden and Landon Cunningham, and a host of nephews and nieces, and a brother-in-law: Billie Terpening of Jerseyville. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Pete and Jesse Hires, Claudia Schmidt, Elaine Holmes and Darlaine Terpening.

Laverne was a dear heart who loved doing things for other people. She was a great cook and loved the St. Louis Cardinals. She will be sadly missed.

Visitation will be from 11 A.M. until 2 P.M. on Thursday March 9, 2017 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home immediately following visitation. Burial will be in Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Greene County Senior Citizens.
