Obituary of Mildred Wendorff
Mildred L “Millie” Wendorff, 98, of Pittsfield passed away Monday, March 20, 2017 at Pittsfield Manor. She was born January 22, 1919 in Rockport, Il, a daughter of Hugh and Flossie Mummey McCallister. She married Thomas F. Wendorff on June 13, 1951, in the Rockport Christian Church. He preceded her in death on December 2, 2009.
She was a graduate of Rockport and Pleasant Hill High Schools. She received her undergraduate degree from Western Illinois University, and her Masters In Education from the New York State University in Potsdam.
“Millie”, as she was better known as, was a member of the First Christian Church in Pittsfield. She was an active member of the Lydia Circle. She enjoyed her volunteer work at the Illini Community Hospital. She taught school for many years, mainly in Rockport and Pittsfield. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching the early childhood classes.
Survivors include a niece Kay Brown; three nephews Kent (Nancy), Craig (Debra) and Chris (Janet) Brown, and several great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Florine Brown, Helen Brown and Mary McCallister.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am on Friday, March 24th, 2017 at the First Christian Church of Pittsfield. Burial will be in the Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church of Pittsfield.
