Obituary of Virginia Armitage

 

            Esther Virginia Armitage, 95, of Jacksonville passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 at Heritage Health in Jacksonville. She was born October 16, 1921 in Woodson the daughter of Edgar A. and Sarajane Megginson Basham. She married Albert W. Armitage on August 17, 1941 in St. Louis and he preceded her in death on March 15, 1996.

            She is survived by one daughter, Sharon (husband, David) Shafer of Jacksonville; three granddaughters, Kelly (husband, Ed) Cannon, Heather (husband, Mike) Tillery both of Jacksonville and Kimberly Shafer of Springfield; 7 great-grandchildren, Curtis Tillery, Corey Tillery, Tanner (Kelsie) Knox, Jaynie Shafer, Nick Tillery, Maddie Shafer and Laura Cannon and four great-great grandchildren, Kaylynne Tillery, Isaac Tillery, Will Knox and Braelynn Knox . She was preceded in death by one grandson, Scott Shafer.

            Mrs. Armitage had been employed at J. Capps & Sons and later at Capitol Records both in Jacksonville. She was a member of Central Christian Church. She and her husband were charter members of the Jacksonville Family Campers Club at Lake Jacksonville. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending winters in Florida, camping and dancing.

            A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Williamson Funeral Home with private family burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Central Christian Church Youth Ministry.
