Obituary of John Everett

John William “Bill” Everett, age 94 of Roodhouse died on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at his residence. He was born February 12, 1923 in Higbee, MO, the son of Charles Robert and Myrtle Eva Phillips Everett. He first married Mabel Irene Masters October 4, 1947 and she preceded him in death in 1982. He later married Malinda Wyss-Calvin in 1986 and she preceded him in death in 2004.

He is survived by five children, Gary (Valerie) Whewell of Solon, OH, Sandy (Jim) Baird of Evergreen, CO, Diana Knisley of Exeter, Vonnie (Randy) Goben , Debbie (Max) Barrow both of Roodhouse, four step children, Jacqui Grisdale of Ann Arbor, MI, Paul Grisdale of Chicago, Sue (Dean) Nelson of Aurora, WI, and John (Jill) Grisdale of New Albany, OH, fourteen grandchildren, six step grandchildren, forty-three great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, and five great- great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, and a sister.  

Mr. Everett served in the United States Air Force in the Central Pacific during World War II in Ordinance on Saipan. He worked for Owen’s IL Glass Co. in Alton, Co-owned Masters and Everett Dairy in Roodhouse, and worked for Search’s IGA ,  Joe’s Bi-Rite, and then Meehan’s in Roodhouse until his retirement. He played baseball and coached little league baseball during the 50’s and 60’s. He also served on the school board during the North Greene consolidation and as an alderman in Roodhouse from 1977-1987. He was a frequent volunteer at the North Greene Elementary School. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, going to the casino, and spending time with his family.

A celebration of life gathering will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Seton Hall in White Hall. Private burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospice or Greene County Relay for Life. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse is assisting the family with arrangements.
