Obituary of William Green

William D. “Bill” Green, 92 of Pittsfield passed away  June 3, 2017 at Eastside Health and Rehab Center.

William was born January 30, 1925 the son of Erma and Blon Ellwood Green in Frankford, Missouri. He married Vera Porter October 20, 1945 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Vera preceded him in death August 9, 1996. He then married Doris Smart May 9, 1997 in Pittsfield.

William was a salesman for Schudder Gale Groceries in the Hannibal and Pittsfield areas. In later years he worked for Bergman Meat Packing and Owens Grocery in Pittsfield and Ellis Grocery in Griggsville.

William served in the US Army in Germany from July 1945 to June 14, 1947. He was a member of the American Legion Post 152 and a past post commander and Color Guard member. He was a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church in Pittsfield.

William is survived by his wife Doris, daughter Wanda Grable of Redwater, TX, son Gerald (Judy) Green of Pleasant Hill, daughter Doris Koncor of Pittsfield, foster daughter Linda Irwin of Baylis, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren. Step daughters Judy Smiley and Sharon Klingberg of Florida, Joyce Sidwell of Pittsfield, step sons David, Scott and Brian Smart and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was his brother  Albert T. Green, sons in law Paul Grable and Louis Koncor and a great grandson Christopher Grable.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Monday June 12, 2017 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Burial will be in Frankford Cemetery in Frankford, Missouri where military honors will be conducted. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday June 11, 2017 from 3 until 5 pm at the funeral home.
