Obituary of Ruth White
Ruth Frieda Ehrmann White, 83, passed away May 17, 2017 in Winona, Minnesota, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Ruth was born October 8, 1933, in Karlsruhe, Germany, the sixth of eight daughters of Emil and Hermine Weber Ehrmann.
Ruth met her husband, Ray Lee White, of Winchester when he was stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany while serving in the U.S. Army. They married October 9, 1959, and settled in Winchester for the next fifty years.
Ruth was an efficient homemaker and loving mother to her three children, and she also worked at various jobs outside of the home: grocery store cashier, house cleaner, school cook, custodian, and mental health technician at JDC. If there was a job to be done, she did it, all the while abiding by her favorite motto: “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right!”
When not working outside the home, she loved baking and cooking, gardening, sewing, crocheting, knitting, crafting, camping and fishing at Bennett Springs State Park in Missouri, and simply being outside. After retirement, she was a tireless caregiver to her husband and she also enjoyed doing water aerobics at the Y in Jacksonville and getting together with her group of girlfriends to eat, shop, and play cards.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Ray White, her son Charles White, her parents and sisters, and various in-laws. She is survived by her daughters Susan (Melvin) Langford of Fairmont, MN, and Tina (Steven) Smeby of Winona, MN; her grandchildren Douglas Langford, Charles R. White Jr., Angela White, Luke Smeby, and Bennett Smeby; her brothers-in-law Robert White and David (Linda) White, both of Winchester, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned for 10 am Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Coonrod-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Winchester, IL. The family will meet with friends from 9 am until the time of the service.
