                                                Robert W. Staples

            Robert W. Staples, 81, of Winchester, died Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.  He was born September 15, 1935, in White Hall, the son of Thomas G. and Kathryn Beauchamp Staples.  Bob married Janet Walsh on September 2, 1957, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Murrayville, and she survives.

            Bob is also survived by four sons, Michael (Elaine) Staples of Crystal Lake, Patrick (Terri) Staples of Jacksonville, John (Andrea) Staples of Chatham, and Edward (Lisa) Staples of Springboro, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren,  Katelyn, Haley, Jessica, Samantha, Jacob, Danielle, Andrea, Wesley, Skylar, Kyra, Bailey, Jack, Charlie, and Elizabeth, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

            Bob began working at an early age at the Clancy and Thompson Grocery Store on South Main Street in Jacksonville.  He later managed Gold Coast Trailer Court and Convenience Store before joining Winchester National Bank and eventually becoming Executive Vice President.  Bob retired from State of Illinois Central Management Services in December of 2000.  Following his retirement, Bob worked with Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester.

            Bob was a lifetime member and Former Exalted Ruler of the Elks Club in Jacksonville.  He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, and the former chairman of the Morgan County Democrats.  An avid sports fan, Bob enjoyed coaching youth sports and was very involved with the Jacksonville Elks and Pony/Colt baseball leagues.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and University of Illinois fan.

            Bob had an uncanny ability to meet people and had a large circle of friends.  He enjoyed mushroom hunting, playing cards with his family of friends at the Elks, and playing golf, where he affectionately earned his nickname “Shag.”  Bob’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren, and attending all of their sporting events.

            A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Winchester, with burial at St. Bartholomew Cemetery in Murrayville.  Friends may call after 12 Noon on Thursday at the Coonrod Funeral Home, where the family will meet friends following a 3:45 p.m. prayer service, until 7 p.m.  Memorials are suggested to the Make A Wish Foundation.  Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
