Obituary of Tolbert R. "Toby" Elledge, Jr.
Tolbert R. "Toby" Elledge, Jr., 87, of Perry, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
He was born January 8, 1930 in Griggsville, the son of Tolbert R. Sr., and Goldia Dryden Elledge. He married Carolyn Straus on November 12, 1949 in Hannibal, MO and she preceded him in death on December 21, 2004.
He is survived by four sons, Jeff (Cathy) Elledge of Palatka, FL, Doug (Marsha) Elledge of New Canton, David (Cherie) Elledge of Southlake, TX and Philip (Jean) Elledge of Tyler, TX; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Linda) Elledge of Perry; and two sisters, Jackie Orr and Janie (Ron) Steinbaker, all of Perry. He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Lacy Loraine Elledge; three brothers, Little Jack, Joe, and Billie Elledge; and one sister, Dee Lipcaman.
Mr. Elledge was a 1948 graduate of Perry High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Korean War. He was employed as a business manager by Richter Fertilizer Company for over 35 years. He was a member of Perry United Methodist Church, Perry American Legion and a charter member of Rolling Greens Golf Course in Mt. Sterling. Toby loved to play golf and was a strong supporter of women’s high school and college athletics, especially the Lady Saukee basketball, track and cross country teams where he was a regular in attendance at a majority of their events.
A funeral service will be held 10 AM Monday, July 17, 2017 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Chapel in Griggsville. Burial with military honors will be at Wilson Cemetery in Perry. Family will meet friends from 5 to 7 PM Sunday at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to Perry United Methodist Church or Pittsfield High School–Girl’s Athletics.
