Obituary of Damon Coonrod

     Damon L. Coonrod, age 81 of rural Hillview,  died Monday, July 17, 2017 at White Hall Nursing  & Rehabilitation Center.  He was born November 28, 1935 in White Hall, the son of Dwight and Leona Lane Coonrod.  He married Laura Katherine Dawson February 14, 1954 in Hernando, Mississippi, and she survives. 
     Also surviving is a son Rick Coonrod (companion Tina Denham)  of Franklin, a Daughter Myrna Meldrum of White Hall, four grandchildren, Mandy Christian-Gates, Dirk Coonrod, Dawn George and Dana Osborne , and great grandchildren, Damon, Darek,  and Dalton Christian, Elyjziah, Landon, and Macie  Coonrod, Hannah, Nicholas and Rachel George, and Maddison and Ella Osborne.  Damon is also survived by a sister, Deloris Shugart of Florida, and a brother Denton Coonrod of Winchester.    He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Jeanne Moulton,  and two brothers, Donald Coonrod, and Eugene Coonrod. 
     Damon served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956 and served in Korea during the war.  He worked for five years at EMI in Jacksonville, and for 19 years at Toloma Fertilizer Plant in White Hall.  He was a past member of the White Hall VFW Post 7684, member of the National Rifle Association,  and is a member of the Hillview Baptist Church.   He loved the outdoors, working with wood, and enjoyed spending time with his family. 
     Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall, with burial at Pine tree Cemetery in Patterson.  Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. Thursday until service time.  Memorials are suggested to Hillview Baptist Church.
