Obituary of Jonathan Lyons

 

Jonathan Lyons, age 30, of Waverly, Il. died Friday afternoon (July 28, 2017) at his residence surrounded by his family following his battle with cancer.

He was born June 17, 1987 in Springfield, Il. son of Patrick and Vicki Fox Lyons.

Surviving is his mother, Vicki Lyons of Waverly, Il.; four sisters, Jencee Brogdon and husband Adrian of Franklin, Il., Josie Johnson and husband Paul of Waverly, Il., Jenna Alexander and husband L.T. of Waverly, Il. and Jill Lyons and Riley of Waverly, Il.; three brothers, Jared Lyons and Sydney of Waverly, Il., Jordan Lyons and Emily of Waverly, Il, and Chance Lyons of Waverly, Il.; his God parents, Bonnie Watkins of Waverly, Il and Sherry Watkins of Springfield, Il. and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Pat Lyons; a brother, Jacob Lyons; maternal grandparents, Loyal Fox and Donna Powell; and paternal grandparents, Louis Dean “Deano” and Ladora Lyons; and a close friend Austin Stults.

Jon was a 2006 graduate of Waverly High School and attended Lincoln Land Community College studying auto mechanics.  He was a past employee of Farmers Elevator and later was employed by Prairieland F.S.  He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Waverly and was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish.  He was a member of the “Waverly Swine Breeders” and loved his dogs Molly and Charlie.  Jon also loved driving demo cars in several fairs.  Recently his God Mother Sherry made it possible for Jon to go to Panama City, Fl. to see the beach and ocean and cross that off his bucket list. 

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday (August 2, 2017) at the Vicki Lyons residence, 3400 State Hwy 104 Waverly, Il.  Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly, Il.  Memorials may be made to Waverly American Legion Building Fund c/o Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, 349 Tanner, Waverly, Il. 62692.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.airsman-hires.com.
