Maureen Martin

Obituary of Maureen Martin

~~Maureen Martin, age 92 of White Hall went home to be with the Lord on August 1, 2017.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents, four sisters, and daughter-in-law. Maureen was born in Charters Towers, Queensland, Australia. She met the love of her life James, during WWII when he served in the Army Air Corps and was stationed in her home town. They married in 1944 and Maureen came to the U.S. in 1945. Always proud of her Australian heritage, an Aussie flag was flown outside of their home in White Hall almost daily. In 1958, Maureen became a naturalized American Citizen, again, something in which she took great pride.
Surviving are her three children, Charles (Pat) Martin of Jacksonville, Raymond (Chris, deceased) of Carbondale, and Julie (Mancel) Day of Winchester, grandchildren, Matthew (Rachel), Timothy (Lacey), Steven Day and Kelly (Adam) Sims, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  Maureen knew no strangers. She loved to sit and visit and she had a reputation as a wonderful story teller able to capture the attention of all regardless of age.  Her working career was highlighted by over 30 years as a cook and head cook in the North Greene School District. Maureen lived a full and joyful life and she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
