Obituary of Talitha Thomas

Talitha Anna Mae Thomas passed away peacefully August 2, 2017.

Known as Anna Mae, she was born March 6, 1940 to the late Thomas and Talitha Hopper. Anna Mae graduated Jacksonville High School in 1959. She married Robert Donald Thomas Sr. on September 2, 1962 at the Literberry Baptist Church in Literberry Illinois. Anna Mae was a kind and gentle spirit. Upon meeting her, one would never guess this woman of small stature spent ten years riding motorcycles with Robert. Being a passenger on a motorcycle was not thrilling enough for her. Shortly after they began riding motorcycles together, Anna Mae learned to ride by herself and soon had her own Harley. While her mother was adamantly and very vocally opposed to her daughter riding a motorcycle, Anna Mae simply followed her own path and enjoyed the open road on her bike.

Once the motorcycle phase passed in their lives, Robert and Anna Mae took up the RV life. Together traveling and camping remained their passion until Robert’s passing in 1993. In her later years, she became of all things a huge NASCAR fan. If there was a race on TV, there was no doubt where she could be found.

Together for the nearly thirty years, they raised four children: Robert Donald Thomas Jr., Sandra (Winningham), Michael and Stacey.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Robert, son Robert Donald Thomas Jr., brothers Raymond Monroe, Johnny Hopper and sister Sue Hopper. Her survivors include her children, Sandy, Mike and Stacey, Brother Tommy, Sister Jackie Blaze and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

While having been baptized as a child, Anna Mae at her direction was baptized again May 10, 2017 in the presence of her sons Mike and Stacey.

The family would like to send a special thank you to all those who provided her care these last few months.
