Obituary of Jennie Hester
Jennie Jo Hester, 80, of Jacksonville, died Sunday, August 6, 2017, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. She was born August 9, 1936, in Divernon, the daughter of Charles and Thelma Powers Leedy. Jennie married Billie G. Hester on December 30, 1960, in Springfield, and he preceded her in death on September 20, 2003.
Jennie is survived by three children, Sheri (Daniel) Funk of Flat Rock, Kimberly (Richard Bradley) Bunn of Quincy, and Mark (Lisa) Chambers of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren, Tricia (Richie) Ulery of Carrollton, Luke (Amanda Hunt) Chambers, Marcy Chambers, Zachary Chambers, and Brittney Hester, all of Jacksonville, Dustin Daniels of Granite City, Megan Funk and Matt Funk, both of Flat Rock, and Courtney (Bill) Baulos of Jacksonville; several great-grandchildren, and one brother, Tom (Mary) Leedy of Palos Verdes, California. Jennie was preceded in death by two sons, Steve Chambers (surviving wife, Pam of Jacksonville), and Billie G. Hester, Jr. (surviving wife, Cathy Booth of Virginia), one granddaughter, Katie Jo Funk, and one sister, Judy Leedy.
Jennie was a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years, first at Passavant Hospital and later at the Jacksonville Developmental Center. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Jacksonville Moose, and volunteered weekly for the Waverly-Franklin Military Support Group. Jennie was a talented seamstress and enjoyed quilting and traveling with friends. She had a huge heart and cared so much for her friends, neighbors, family, and grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends following the service, until 7 p.m. Private interment will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Waverly-Franklin Military Support Group.
