Obituary of Michael Carmody

 

 

   Michael Joseph Carmody, 87, of Carrollton died on Saturday night Nov. 4, 2017 at the Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville.

     Born in Carrollton on Nov. 16, 1929, he was the son of the late Daniel and Mary Ursula (Carmody) Carmody.   He married Barbara Jane Butts on Feb. 21, 1951, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 2016.

     Surviving are his children:   Carolyn Johnson of Goreville, IL, Gary (Jeanette) Carmody of Joliet, IL, Charis (Kenny) Storey of Jerseyville, Linda (Doug) Lake of Carrollton, Bruce Carmody of Carrollton, 10 Grandchildren: Scott Elliott, Jaclyn Carmody, Jazlyn Carmody, Sara Brown, Megan Storey, Lora Davis, Michael Lake, Kimberly Lake, Jessica Lake, and Lindsey Lake,  11 Great-grandchildren, sisters Phyllis Schnelten of Alton, Denise (Robert) Linn of Carrollton, a brother Bill Carmody of Des Moines, IA, a dear sister-in-law Grace Anderson of Des Moines, IA and many other relatives and friends.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother and sister-in-law Dan & Nadine Carmody, sister and brother-in-law Mary & Lynn Cox, son-in-law Gary Johnson, and brother-in-law Robert Schnelten.

      Joe worked for State Farm and was the local agent in Carrollton, IL for over 38 years and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.  He was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church and was a past Mayor of Carrollton and served as an alderman for many years.  He was a past member of the Boyd Hospital Board of Directors and a past member of the Carrollton City Cemetery Board.

      Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday Nov. 9, 2017 at St. John’s Catholic Church located at 414 3rd St. in Carrollton.  A prayer service will be conducted at 3:45 p.m. that afternoon.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday Nov. 10, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the church with burial in St. John’s Cemetery.   Memorials may be made to St. John’s Church, St John’s Cemetery or the District One Scholarship Foundation.  Condolences may be left online at:  www.airsman-hires.com.
