Obituary of Maurice Yowell
Maurice Yowell, of Jacksonville went to be with his Lord on November 21, 2017. He was born April 21, 1930 in East St. Louis, IL the son of Russell and Anna Mueller Yowell. He married Georgia Lankford on August 22, 1953 and she survives.
He was the loving father of one son, Mark (Sheri) Yowell and three daughters, Dona Barfield, Diane (Andy) Reynolds and Susan (Randy) Bowen. He is survived by three stepchildren, Michael Lankford, Judy Logan and Charlotte Heatherington; nine grandchildren, Timothy Yowell, Joseph Yowell and Amy Yowell (Clint) Cochrane, Sarah Barfield (Jody) Graff, Michael Barfield, Mark (Alana) Reynolds, Robin Reynolds, James (Sara Mills) Bowen and Jacob (fiance’, Briana Turner) Bowen; four step-grandchildren, Ronald Logan, David (Joanna) Logan, Brian (Amanda) Lankford and Brett Hartke. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Marjorie Gelly and Ellen Fowler.
Mr. Yowell served in the United States Army for 26 years. He rose to the rank of Command Sergeant Major, the highest rank for an enlisted soldier. During his career he was awarded numerous medals, including two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters for heroism. He completed his military career serving at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He was a member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. He was a family man and especially loved antiquing with his wife.
