Obituary of Enoch Ham
Enoch Ham, 88, of Perry, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Vibra Hospital in Springfield.
He was born June 10, 1929 in Chambersburg, the son of Beal and Daisy Dewitt Ham. He married Harriet Kendall and she preceded him in death, he later married Alberta Louise Crow on December 31, 1971 in Quincy and from this union joined Alberta’s three children, Janet Craft, Rodney and Kevin Cobb. Alberta preceded Enoch in death on March 15, 2013.
He is survived by his children, Scott (fiancé, Colleen Rempe) Ham of Fort Madison, IA and Tina (Brian) Fitzjarrald of Griggsville; one sister, Betty Chambers of Meredosia; and loved by so many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth “Hap” Ham, Corb Ham and Edgar Ham; and three sisters, Mary Hazelrigg, Edith Long and Ruth Nunn.
Mr. Ham was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from March of 1951 to March of 1953. Enoch owned and operated Ham’s Grocery Store in Fishhook for several years, then worked for Skelly Oil Company, Bergman Meat Packing and Brown Shoe Company, all in Pittsfield, Perry Meat Locker and lastly the Pike County Jail before retiring. He had a strong love for his family and enjoyed birthday parties and history, especially local history pertaining to Perry Springs and Robert Earl Hughes. He loved gardening and always made sure he had enough produce to share with friends and neighbors. Enoch was currently living at Grand Prairie Assisted Living in Macomb where he lovingly called home. They opened their door and hearts to him and provided excellent care.
A funeral service will be held 1 PM Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Chapel in Griggsville. Burial with military honors will be at Wilson Cemetery in Perry. Family will meet with friends from 11 AM until time of services at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to Perry UMC- Monday Dinners or Perry Fire Department.
