Obituary of Julia Ward

            Julia Robertine Ward, 96, of Jacksonville, died Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.  She was born September 26, 1921, in Chandlerville, the daughter of Otis and Lillian Stroh Gerdes.  She married James Carrigan and he preceded her in death in 1961.  Robertine married Manuel M. Ward on April 6, 1968, and he survives.

            She is also survived by four children, Jim (Mary) Carrigan and Judy (Harry) Buck, both of Jacksonville, Mike (Joan) Carrigan of Springfield, Missouri, and JoAnn (Dan) Willard of South Jacksonville; eleven grandchildren, Chris (Barry) Hickman of Springfield, Joanie (Jerome) Themig of Jacksonville, Jamie (Dean) Schaben of Springdale, Arkansas, Katie (Adam) Filler of Noblesville, Indiana, and Monica (Chad) Ducey, of Fisher, Indiana, Harry (Karen) Buck III and Teri (Melvin) Dambacher, both of Springfield, John (Jenny) Casey of Jacksonville, Mark (Lisa) Casey and Barb Carrigan, both of Springfield, Missouri, and Jim (Tracy) Carrigan of Chicago; numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Wayne Gerdes of Tennessee and Doug (Donna) Gerdes of Chandlerville.  Robertine is also survived by three step-children, Gene (Mary Lou) Ward of South Jacksonville, Juanita (John) Schmidt of Chicago, and Janet Coltor of Iowa.  She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Mary Beth Vetter, and two brothers, Russell Gerdes and Delbert Gerdes.

            Robertine retired as supervisor of housekeeping from the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired.  She was a longtime member of the Church of Our Saviour and enjoyed bowling and golf.

            A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017, at Williamson Funeral Home, with burial at Calvary Cemetery.  The family will meet friends from 9-11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Jacksonville Food Bank.  Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
