Obituary of Mildred Hayes
Mildred Leona Hayes, 82, of Jacksonville, died Friday, January 5, 2018, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born March 19, 1935, in Pisgah, the daughter of Curtis and Emma White Crow. She married Elza Cleo Hayes on December 31, 1955, in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death.
Mildred is survived by one daughter, Nancy Bee (deceased husband, Curtis) Mayberry of Jacksonville, four grandchildren, Shawn (wife, Toni) McNeece of Murrayville, Nicholas Dale (companion, Mary Parks) Mayberry, Zachary Curtis (wife, Anna) Mayberry, and Clinton Cleo Mayberry, all of Jacksonville; four great-grandchildren, Kynleigh, Madelyn, Hayden, and Abigail; and one sister, Judy (husband, Eugene) Tepen of Jacksonville. Mildred was preceded in death by one daughter, Vicki McNeece (surviving husband, Steve of Woodson), one son, Mark Sterling Hayes (surviving wife Carol of Surprise, Arizona), and one brother, Kenneth R. Crow (surviving wife, Della Mae of Waverly).
Mildred was a 1954 graduate of Franklin High School and later worked at J. Capps and Sons in Jacksonville. She later devoted her time to her favorite roles of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mildred loved being outdoors working in her garden and also enjoyed collecting angels. She was an excellent cook and loved baking and family get-togethers. She also was proud to have crocheted blankets for each and every family member.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Williamson Funeral Home, with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
