Obituary of William Stanberry, Jr.
William S. “Bill” Stanberry, Jr., 90, of Murrayville passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his wife, Hazel and his children. He was born May 4, 1927 in Springfield the son of William and Della Mae Williams Stanberry. He married Betty Jane Grider and she preceded him in death. He later married Hazel Fay Inman and she survives.
He is also survived by three sons, Gary (Linda) Stanberry of Champaign, Greg (Pam) Stanberry of Opp, AL and Gail (Barb) Stanberry of Rantoul; two daughters, Dana Thomas and Dora (Frank) Ehlert both of South Jacksonville; 19 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Marshal Dean Stanberry (surviving wife, Linda of Little Rock, AR); two granddaughters, Noelle Ehlert and Alisha Brune; one great-grandson, A.J. Hanlin; his son-in-law, Ray Thomas; two brothers, Carl Stanberry and Paul Stanberry and 4 sisters, Pearl Moore, Viola Miller, Ruby Stanberry and Elsie Bryant.
Mr. Stanberry served in the United States Army from 1949-1950 and the United States Air Force from 1951-1952 in the 500 1st Air Borne Division. He later served in the Air Force Reserves for 5 years. He had been employed at Swift & Co. as butcher, the Illinois State Hospital for 19 years and was later a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Harts Prairie Baptist Church and the American Hunting Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Cass/ Schuyler Area Hospice for their kindness and heart felt services.
