He was an outstanding football player. He was known for his shoestring tackles as a very tough, hardnosed defensive end and lettered all four years. He also was an excellent basketball and baseball player. He was good at everything he set his mind to do, including woodworking, making jewelry from rocks, bowling and showing horses which he received many ribbons and trophies for. He enjoyed coon hunting, his peacocks, family wrestling matches, and fried chicken. He loved his family and instilled a work ethic and passion within us. One of his favorite quotes was “quitters never win and winners never quit.” We loved him for his orneriness and mischief. We will tell and laugh at his stories for years to come. He was a member of Believers Baptist Church.
