Obituary of Charles Stickman

Charles H. Stickman, Jr. ,91, of Griggsville, IL peacefully passed on April 12, 2018 at Liberty Village in Pittsfield.  He was born June 25,1926 to Hazel and Charles Stickman, Sr. in Griggsville.  After attending one room country schools, Jr. graduated from Griggsville High School in 1945.  He then joined the U.S. Army where he served in the first Army hospital in the Philippines as an X-ray technician at the end of World War II.  He returned to Pike County to farm, which he did for the rest of his life.  Even when unable to get outside and work, he enjoyed getting updates on what was happening and listening to daily farm shows on the radio.  Jr. enjoyed calling square dances, going to livestock auctions, and building things in his farm shop.  He met his wife, Dorothy, at an Illinois Rural Youth Camp in Allerton Park and married her on August 15, 1954.  She preceded him in death in 1992.  He was a member of the New Salem United Methodist Church where he served on several boards; the Hinman Cemetery Board; Illinois Farm Bureau; and Griggsville American Legion for 69 continuous years. 

 

Surviving are two daughters, Ann of LaGrange, IL and Sharon of Griggsville, sister Mary M. Myers (Ralph) of Griggsville, IL, brother Richard Stickman of Griggsville, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Mary, sisters-in-law Gail Stickman and Mildred Lippincott, and brother-in-law Tom Lippincott.

 

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2018 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Chapel in Griggsville with Al Laird officiating.  Burial in Hinman Cemetery.  Visitation will be April 15, 2018 from 1-3 p.m. at the funeral chapel.  Memorials may be made to Hinman Cemetery or New Salem United Methodist Church.
