Obituary of Paul Stewart

Paul Stanley Stewart, age 94, of Waverly, Il. died Wednesday evening (December 28, 2016) at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Il.

He was born September 20, 1922 in Waverly, Il. son of the late Jesse Harrison and Mary Emmaline McCracken Stewart

He married Helen Allen on October 31, 1948 in Waverly, Il. and she survives.

Also surviving are daughters, Marcella Couturiaux (husband Henry) of Waverly, Il., Alison Williams (Russell Sumner) of Riverton, Il., Janelle Nixon of Springfield, Il., and Julie Stewart (Craig Schroer) of Cloverdale, In.; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; one brother, Maurice Stewart of Waverly, Il.; a sister-in-law, Frances Stewart of Springfield, Il. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Amy Meehan; one sister, Jean Luttrell and husband Elbert; and two brothers, Harold Stewart and wife Marge and Howard Stewart and a sister-in-law, Margie Stewart.

Paul was a 1940 graduate of Waverly High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 serving during W.W. II on a submarine tender. He farmed the family farm south of Waverly for most of his life. His passions were family, farming and community. He was a member of the Waverly Christian Church where he was past deacon and currently attended the Koke Mill Christian Church in Springfield, Il. He was a member of the Waverly American Legion, past member of Waverly Lions Club where he was treasurer, past member of Waverly School Board, and past member of Morgan County Board. He was a founding member of Tasty Lean Pork Producers.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday (December 31, 2016) at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted by Waverly American Legion Post. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
