Obituary of Dorothy Sauer

Dorothy Francis Lumsden Sauer, 95 of Winchester passed away Monday morning, January 9, 2017 at the Scott County Nursing Center.

She was born in Nortonville, Illinois on April 12, 1921 to the late Edward and Ida Mae Maxwell Lumsden.

She married Urban H. Sauer on June 7, 1942 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Winchester.

Preceding her in death was a daughter Carolyn M. Sauer in 1974; and her husband, Urban in 1985.

Mrs. Sauer was a 1939 graduate of Winchester High School. She worked in the court system for 35 years, 30 years as a court reporter for several judges in the 7th Judicial Circuit, and serving as Scott County Probation Officer for many years.

Dorothy was an active member of St. Mark’s Church. She served as president of the Alter Society, and was the organist for many years.

She enjoyed being a member of many clubs and organizations in the community through the years including Royal Neighbors, and the “Happy Hookers” crochet club.

Surviving are her three sons, Ed (wife Margaret) Sauer of Springfield; Mike (wife MaryKay) Sauer of Springfield; John (wife Lisa) Sauer of Troy, IL, granddaughter Kathy (husband Ed) Korte of Winchester, 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

A private funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Mark’s Cemetery.
