Obituary of Betty Collins
Betty Joan Collins, age 84, was promoted to glory on Friday Jan. 27, 2017 at her home in Griggsville, IL surrounded by family and friends who loved her dearly.
She was born June 27, 1932 a daughter of Hulbert and Mary Olive Craven. She married Richard (Champ) Collins on March 21, 1952 in Pittsfield, IL and he survives. She is also survived by her brother, Buster (Rose Anne) Craven of Griggsville and sister, Mary Etta Craven of Pittsfield.
Betty is survived by three daughters, Linda Brawdy and Ruby Collins-Thomas both of Griggsville and Jody Collins of Metamora, IL. Five grandchildren Angie and Josh Brawdy of Griggsville; Doug Kirk of Griggsville; Keesila Thomas of White Hall; and Myesha Edwards of Griggsville. Two great-grandchildren Cash and Flint Kirk of Griggsville and several nieces and nephews and her little butterball LadyBug.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, infant child, and her son-in-law David “Moo” Brawdy.
Mrs. Collins graduated Griggsville High School in 1950. After graduation, she began working with Dr. Vargis of Griggsville. Her next job was working in the strawberry fields for the Cadwell family where she met the love of her life. Later while raising her own children she babysat for the Wade, Dehart, and Hannel families. She worked at Trio Manufacturing in Griggsville until her retirement.
She was active in WCTU, Home Extension, Chautauqua, and Skinner House Historical Society. She was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church of Griggsville, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years and also counseling at Camp Manitoumi, a church camp near Lowpoint, IL. She loved watching her grand-children and great-grandchildren in school and sport activities.
A funeral service for Betty will be held at 11 am Wednesday February 1, 2017 at the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Griggsville.
Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery.
The family will meet with friends on Tuesday from 5 until 7 pm at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Chapel in Griggsville.
