Obituary of Helen Driver

Helen F. Driver, 96, of Jacksonville passed away Monday evening, February 13, 2017 at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Jacksonville. She was born December 25, 1920 in rural Arenzville the daughter of Gilman and Ada Bruening Squires. She married Maurice D. Driver on January 31, 1943 near Arenzville and he preceded her in death on May 10, 2016.

She is survived by two children, Connie (Gary) Braner and Wes Driver both of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Michelle (Joey) King, Kimberly (Sonny) Probst and Scott (Amanda) Driver all of Jacksonville, Josh Tippin of Springfield, and Jenna (Nate) Desch of Edwardsville; one step-granddaughter, Lisa (Hoss) Farmer of Jacksonville; eight great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Strawn and Ila Mae Wilson Downs both of Jacksonville and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois Deane Driver Tippin.

Mrs. Driver graduated from Chapin High School in 1938. Following graduation she took a teacher’s course of instructions on the Hawaiian guitar from McKinney School of Music in Peoria, Illinois. She later taught Hawaiian guitar in Iowa and Minnesota. In 1963 she went to work at Hertzberg Book Bindery, where she remained for 23 years, retiring in 1986. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Jacksonville and enjoyed reading, gardening and working with flowers.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church in Jacksonville with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 10:00 a.m. –noon on Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Faith Lutheran Church or the Jacksonville Food Bank.
