Obituary of Joan Allen

Joan M. Allen, 82, of rural Nortonville passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Passavant Area Hospital. She was born October 31, 1934 in Morgan County the daughter of Monroe and Meda Cox Chaudoin. She married John P. Allen on February 28, 1952 in Nortonville and he preceded her in death on February 16, 2011.

She is survived by one son, Johnny J. (Kim) Allen of Nortonville; three daughters, Paula (Buddy) White of Franklin, Susan (Steve) Plogger and Phyllis (Roy) Nix both of Jacksonville; 11 grandchildren, Jedidiah (Kim) Allen of Jacksonville, Chet (Nicole) Allen of Franklin, Amy (Clark) Bowman of Franklin, David (Jill) White of Winchester, Rachel (Matt) Lindsey of New Berlin, and Tyler (Kelsey) Plogger, Kyle Plogger, Cole Plogger, Josie Nix, Joseph Nix and Samuel Nix all of Jacksonville; 7 great-grandchildren, Molly, Levi, Logan, Ty and Lane Allen and Carson and Marshall Bowman. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Forrest Dale Chaudoin and Leslie “Ike” Cox and one sister, Mary Knapp.

Mrs. Allen worked alongside her husband on the family farm and later worked in the bakery at County Market in Jacksonville. She was a member of Youngblood Baptist Church in Nortonville. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and bird watching. She was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Youngblood Cemetery in Nortonville. The family will meet friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Youngblood Cemetery or the Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences may be left online at
