Obituary of Mary Tedrow

Mary Elizabeth Tedrow passed away on June 11, 2017 in Pittsfield Illinois. She was born November 11, 1919 in Griggsville, IL the daughter of Elizabeth Dora Butler Walker and Robert Leander Walker. She married Myron E. Tedrow on October 4, 1953 in Pittsfield, IL. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1994. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Donna E. Westphal. She is survived by one niece, Mary Keilty, of St. Louis, MO.


Mary was a graduate of Perry High School and Gem City College in Quincy, IL.


She was employed by MD King Milling Company in Pittsfield for over 45 years. She began her career there as a stenographer and rose through the company to become a Vice President. During this time, she was thought to be the most active grain buyer and seller in the area. Her job involved transactions representing thousands of dollars and thousands of bushels. According to then Board Chairman M.D. King, “Mary’s word was always accepted and her reputation was unquestioned." 


In retirement Mary and Myron loved to travel throughout the United States particularly Daytona Beach, Florida.


Mary was a member of the Detroit Christian Church and a 70-year member and thrice Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Cornelia Chapter #791 and Pittsfield Chapter #195.


Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday (June 15, 2017) at the Detroit Christian Church in Detroit, Il.  Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery.  Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church.
