Obituary of John Ryan
John Michael “Mike” Ryan, age 69, of Waverly, Il. died Monday morning (August 28, 2017) at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Il.
He was born January 23, 1948 in Jacksonville, Il. son of the late Paul and Barbara Joyce Sexton Ryan.
He married Rebecca Ellen Anderson on January 20, 1973 and she preceded him in death on July 20, 2005.
Surviving are his daughters, Heidi Guernsey (Derek) of Pleasant Plains, Il., Katie Mosier (Josh) of Bloomington, Il., Kimmie Byers (Mike) of Jacksonville, Il., Molly Ryan (companion Brian Colwell) of Franklin, Il.; fiancé, Susan Isenberg of Springfield, Il.; seven grandchildren, Justin and Jaden Guernsey of Pleasant Plains, Il., Tayler and Tyson Peak and Rylee and Beckett Mosier all of Bloomington, Il., and Brayden Byers of Jacksonville, Il.; sisters, Carol Peterson of Waverly, Il., Becky Gideon of Waverly, Il.; brothers, Bob Ryan of Waverly, Il. and Kelly Ryan (Linda) of Waverly, Il.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one sister, Madonna White; and a brother Richard Ryan in infancy.
Mike was a 1966 graduate of Waverly High School. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving in Vietnam. He graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and was employed by Morgan County Sheriff’s Department for over 30 years as Chief Deputy. He was a member of the Waverly American Legion and the VFW. He was an avid sports fan especially the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed attending his daughters and grandchildren’s sporting events. He also loved to fish and garden.
A Celebration of Life will be held 3 p.m. Friday (September 1, 2017) at the Waverly American Legion in Waverly, Il. Burial will follow in Waverly East Cemetery.
