Obituary of William Birdsell
William W. Birdsell, 71, of Jacksonville passed away Tuesday morning, November 21, 2017 at his residence. He was born May 9, 1946 in Jacksonville the son of George, Jr. and F. Edith Herrin Birdsell.
He is survived by his children, Franklin Joe Birdsell of Quincy, Jeffery Birdsell (fiancé, Brittany Cockerill) of Jacksonville, Jean Cummings of Alma, MI, Rebecca (Michael) Weed of Quincy and Doug (Cyndi) Chelf of Muscatine, IA; 12 grandchildren, Tabatha Meier, Joshua Birdsell, William Robacker, Kenneth E. Birdsell, Connie Birdsell, Christopher Birdsell, Amber Cummings, Jessica Davenport, Niles Cummings, Jessica Nieders, Kaiden Farris and Kaison Miller; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Joe (Linda) Birdsell of Jacksonville; one sister, Elaine (Terry) Johnsiee of Roodhouse and several nieces and nephews . He was preceded in death by one son, William F. Birdsell; his parents, George Birdsell and Edith Tendick; one brother, George Lee Birdsell; one sister, Patty Ann Stout and his step-father, LeRoy Tendick.
Mr. Birdsell had been employed as an Operating Engineer with the Local 965 in Springfield. He served in the United States Navy. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, telling stories and his dog, Suzy Q.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2017 at Jacksonville East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to American Heart Association.
