Obituary of Melba Six
Melba L. Six, 80, of Decatur, died Monday, December 25, 2017, at Fairhaven Christian Village in Decatur. She was born December 12, 1937, in Winchester, the daughter of William Orville and Ethel Piper Rider. She married John Six on August 8, 1959, in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death on July 25, 1991.
Melba is survived by one daughter, Joyce Six, and two sons, John (Ellen) Six and Jeff Six, all of Decatur; her daughter-in-law, Vickie Six of Decatur, eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one sister, Helen Thomas of Brandenburg, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Six and James Six, six sisters, Grace Elliott, Ruth Brogdon, Catherine Lane, Wanda Miller, Fern Carroll, and Marjorie Wyatt, and six brothers, George Rider, Donald Rider, Harold Rider, Robert Rider, William Rider, and Clayton Rider.
Melba was a homemaker and was also employed at McGraw Edison for ten years. She enjoyed playing bingo, working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, wii bowling, and collecting teddy bears. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Williamson Funeral Home, with burial at East Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 12 Noon until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Diabetes Foundation.
