Obituary of Carl Sherren

            Carl W. Sherren, 89, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018, in Jacksonville.  He was born April 22, 1928, in Virginia, the son of Ashton and Martha Merriman Sherren.  He married Lois Lucille Simmons on June 1, 1947, in Utica, and she preceded him in death on October 2, 2009. 

            Carl is survived by one daughter, Carol (Bill) Range of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Alicia (Corey) Grinkey of Jacksonville and Carrie Mattimore of Dothan, Alabama; three step-grandchildren, Robin Vilbig of Haslet, Texas, Cindy (Michael) Porter of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Carmen (John) Wilson of Pacific, Missouri; three great-grandsons, Nicholas Garman of Jacksonville, and Mason Mattimore and Coltyn Mattimore, both of Dothan, Alabama; five step-great-grandsons, Parker Lovell, Chandler Vilbig, Camden Vilbig, Michael Ehlers, and Zack Range; two step-great-granddaughters, Savannah Lovell and Maegan Ehlers, and three step-great-great-grandchildren, Gunner, Braxton, and Isabella.  Carl is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Harold, and Elmer Sherren.

            Carl was retired from Purity Baking Company.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Carl was a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

            A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery.  The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials are suggested to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.  The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
