Obituary of Michael Fair

 

Michael Ray Fair, age 75 of Jerseyville died early Friday, May 4, 2018 at his residence. He was born June 16, 1942 in Alton, the son of June Fair Bushnell. He married Connie Rowling Bishop August 24, 1973 in Jerseyville and she survives.

Also surviving is a son, Michael D. (companion Karen Woelfel) Fair of Jerseyville, two daughters, Yvette (Phillip) Hansen of Jerseyville, Abbey Hausman of Jerseyville, five grandchildren, Miranda Fair, Isaac Hausman, Lauren Hansen, Hannah Bishop, Sophie Bishop, one sister, Judy Cullom of Indiana, and a brother Robert Bushnell of Texas. He was preceded in death his son, Scott Bishop, and a sister Donna Barber.

He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1960. He served in the United States Army from 1961-1965 touring in France and Germany. He was a cryptographer while serving. He worked at the Powder Mill in Alton for several years, and then he worked as a lineman and electric superintendent for Illinois Power for 27 years retiring in 2001. He worked to restore power during Hurricane Hugo and Fran. He enjoyed fishing, helping other repair or fix things, shooting pool, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Mike said “there was a system and place for everything he did” He was a small guy but nothing was a challenge for him. He was a member of the Godfrey Congregational Church and the Alton Moose.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Panther Athletic Club at Jerseyville High School.
