Obituary of Shirley Slocum
Shirley Slocum, 81, of Jacksonville, died Friday, May 4, 2018, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born October 4, 1936, in Winchester, the daughter of Wayne and Eileen Crabtree Howard. Shirley married Junior Slocum on March 4, 1961, in Winchester, and they were later divorced.
Shirley is survived by three children, Brad Slocum, Deb Slocum, and Brenda Lashmet, all of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Brandi (Steve) Harbert of Coffeen, and Nikki (Chris) Anders, Katelyn Lashmet, and Kyle Lashmet, all of Jacksonville; four great-grandchildren, Dawson, Emma, and Presley Anders, all of Jacksonville, and Brielle Harbert of Coffeen; one sister, Janice (deceased Truman) Walden of Greenfield, and one brother, Gary (Billie) Howard of Beebe, Arkansas.
Shirley managed The Curve Inn in Franklin for 11 years, Tops Big Boy in Jacksonville for 17 years, and later managed The Spaghetti Shop for seven years. Shirley loved to go out to eat and enjoyed her monthly meals with her high school classmates. She cherished her family, and especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s events.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Chapin Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 12 Noon until 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Attention Deficit Disorder Association.
