Obituary of Jack Howell

Louis S. “Jack” Howell, 79, of Jacksonville passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Jacksonville. He was born in New Salem Township in Pike County, Illinois on July 10, 1938 the son of Howard S. and Florine Vannatta Howell. He married Shirley Doolin on February 15, 1958 at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville and she survives.

            He is also survived by one son, Reginald Howell of Jacksonville; one daughter, Sherri Howell of Jacksonville; one grandson, Dustin Howell; two brothers, Gary (Carrie) Howell and David (Sharon) Howell both of Springfield; one sister, Diane McDonald of Kinderhook and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Clifford Howell (surviving wife, Shirley of Springfield).

            Jack had been employed at Jacksonville School District #117 as a Custodian for many years. He was a member of the Church of Our Saviour and liked watching NASCAR, especially Jimmy Johnson. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and visiting with his friends at Norma’s Café and Bobby Ray’s. He especially loved his dog, Chelsea.

            A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Calvary Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home where a prayer service will be conducted at 1:45 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, the National Kidney Foundation or PAWS.
