Obituary of Tobin "Toby" Leonhard

Tobin “Toby” Daniel Leonhard, 45, of Jacksonville passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He was born April 16, 1973 in Landsthul, Germany. He is survived by his wife, Melissa Leonhard and his mother, Juanita “Penny” Leonhard both of Jacksonville; his father John F. Leonhard (Ken) of Minnesota; his brother, John Kyle Leonhard; sons, Austin Davy and Tyler Gatzke; daughter, Melanie Davy and granddaughter, Bella Meri Leonhard all of Jacksonville and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Nicole Renee Leonhard; his maternal grandmother, Mary Saunders (husband, Bob, deceased); his maternal grandfather Clarence H. Morris (wife, Dorothy, deceased); and his paternal grandparents, Floyd M. and Freda K. Leonhard.

            Tobin was a 1992 graduate of Jacksonville High School where he was a member of the marching band and the jazz band. He attended Lincoln Land Community College and Southern Illinois University, concentrating on computer technology. He had worked as a Customer Service Representative for several companies, most recently at DXC in Jacksonville.

            Tobin loved studying world history and tinkering with model rockets and airplanes.  In addition he was a skilled mechanic. He had a special love of nature and cherished visits to the Leonhard family farm near Virginia. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville and especially loved the yearly bagpipe service. Tobin was a loving son, a devoted father and grandfather and a loyal friend.

            A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family will meet friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family or First Presbyterian Church.
