Obituary of Harold Patterson

            Harold Dwight “Tom” Patterson age 85, of Roodhouse, died Tuesday, June 05, 2018 at White Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  He was born April 2, 1933 in White Hall, the son of Joseph Hume and Sophia Marie Coates Patterson.  He married Mary Ellen Barrow Maberry on April 27, 1957 at Jacksonville, and she survives. 

            Also surviving are 3 children, Eva (Eugene) Vinyard of Roodhouse, Fred (Linda) Barrow of Canton, and Mary Ann (Steve) Waid  of Scottville, ten grandchildren, J.D. McCormick, Malinda Tannahill, Bradley McCormick, Chad Barrow, Kim Turner, Brandon Babcock, Kaylee Stanley, Steven Waid,  Dustie Shipley, and Karrie Waid;  many great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He has a brother, James Patterson of Carrollton and a sister, Mary Lou Clark of Manchester.  He was preceded in death by sisters, Theo Spangenberg, Joan Powell and Fannie Patterson, and brothers, Charles, and Gene Patterson.

            Tom was an Army Veteran serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Hillview Baptist Church. He worked for the GM & O and ICG Railroads for 29 years, retiring in 1989, then farmed in the Hillview area for a number of years.  He loved farming, and his John Deere tractors.   He was a fan of St. Louis Cardinals Baseball and The Fighting Illini. More than anything he loved his family,  especially his grandchildren.

            A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m.  Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse, with burial at Fernwood Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials are suggested to GIGI Foundation for Downs Syndrome Children.
