Obituary of Robert Ford

James Robert “Bob” Ford, 94, of Greenfield died on Thursday afternoon June 14, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Born in Greenfield on Dec. 24, 1923 he was the son of the late James W. Ford and Frances L. (Parks) Ford.

He married the former Lois Lea Tendick on June 22, 1947 and spent 64 years of marriage and 72 wonderful years with the love of his life on their beloved farm.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law: Robin Lea and Mike Weller of Greenfield; a son and daughter-in-law: James Louis “J.L.”  and Marci Ford of Greenfield; grandchildren:  James Anderson “Andy” (Timmarie) Ford, Elizabeth (Joe Gillespie) Ford, Christy Ford, Chris L. (Kaci) Weller, Robert M. (Brittany) Weller, Morgan Lea (Paul) Coffey, Steve (Alisa) Range, and Brian Range, great grandchildren: Kimberlee Ford, Kalynn Weller, Corbin Weller, James Douglas Ford, Kenlea Weller, Sloane Weller,  Kressa Weller, Maddax Coffey, Taze Coffey, Mikaela Range, Easton Range, Sydney Range, and Ava Range. He is also survived by his best friend and beloved dog, Buttercup.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife.

Bob was a lifelong farmer.  He was a graduate of the Greenfield High School class of 1942, and served as class President.  He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1947 with a B.S. in Agriculture.  After getting married, he spent 2 years teaching GI’s general agriculture before returning to his family farm with his best friend, Lois Lea.  He did not know much about retirement, and he remained a farmer until the day he went to be with the Lord. Bob’s biggest loves were God and his church, his family, farming, friends, spending time in his timber, and Buttercup.  He loved helping people, writing his annual Christmas letter, and he never knew a stranger.  Any time you saw him, he was sure to have on a hat, his ear muffs, and a joke.  He was typically found on top of a tractor and he was known for delivering his sweet corn to all of his friends.  His family will miss his stories, his hugs, and his smile the most.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the Greenfield United Methodist Church where services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.   Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery near Greenfield.  Memorials may be made to Greenfield United Methodist Church, BJC Hospice or Scott County Dog Rescue.
