Obituary of Clement Knight

Clement Vedder Knight age 87 of White Hall died Monday, June 25, 2018 at his residence. He was born July 20, 1930 to Clement Langdon (Bus) Knight and Ina Vedder Knight at the White Hall Hospital.  Vedder met his wife Vivian Joan Christison in Washington, DC and they returned to Illinois to be married June 22, 1952 in Jacksonville.  They enjoyed over 66 years together!

Vedder is survived by four children:  William Vedder Knight, of White Hall, Pamela (husband Andrew) Pratt of Liberty, Missouri, Thomas (wife Cynthia) Knight of Minneola Florida, and Janice (husband Gary) Breece of White Hall.  Vedder was blessed with six grandchildren, Lydia (Daniel) Bunch, Abigail Pratt, Jacob Breece and Joseph Breece, Samantha Knight and Zach Brannan.  Three step-grandchildren, Rebecca, Andrew and Lauren, a great grandchild, Gideon Bunch and a sister, Ann Ash of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean Christison.

Vedder grew up in White Hall; he graduated from White Hall High School with the Class of 1948.  He joined the Navy in 1950 and was based at Bethesda Naval Medical Center and served aboard the APA196 US Logan during the Korean War.  He came home from the Navy and went to St Louis College of Pharmacy and graduated in 1959.  Vedder and his wife Vivian moved back to White Hall and bought Schmaltz Drugstore and renamed it City Drug Inc.  Vedder was pharmacist at City Drug until his retirement in 1990.

Vedder was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of White Hall, Commander of the American Legion Post 70, the North Greene School Board, and the Masonic Lodge.   He was an avid golfer:  he scored two holes in one on the Florida golf courses!  He enjoyed bowling and multiple card games.  In retirement, Vedder and Vivian enjoyed traveling across the country in their motor home, and made several international adventures.  Vedder and Vivian were delighted to spend 24 years in sunny Clermont, Florida as snowbirds!  Vedder was always full of “words of wisdom”, he enjoyed a wonderful life lived well with many deep and rich relationships.  

Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2018 at White Hall Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in White Hall Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 until the time of services Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to the White Hall Presbyterian Church or the North Greene Food Pantry.
