Obituary of Charles Walk

 

 

Charles Lewis Walk, age 85, of Waverly, Il. died Tuesday morning (July 3, 2018) at Heritage Health in Springfield, Il.

 

He was born October 6, 1932 in Palmyra, Il. son of the late Oscar Charles and Lois Ethel Smith Walk.

 

He married Alice Dulak on December 24, 1953 in Boston, MA and she preceded him in death on April 30, 2018.

 

Surviving is a daughter, Kathy Jo (Albert) Shuster of New Berlin, Il.; a granddaughter, Kari (Stephen)Lowery of Jacksonville, Il.; two great-granddaughters, Savannah and Avery Lowery of Jacksonville, Il.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter Sydney Lowery; five sisters; and one brother.

 

Charlie was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Navy and was a life member of the Waverly American Legion and the V.F.W.  He owned and operated Walk Construction in Waverly, Il. and was a master woodcraftsman.  Charlie was also a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church.  He loved fishing in Lake Okeechobee, where he and Alice loved spending their winters.  He loved working in the yard, gardening but Charlie’s greatest love was family and enjoyed spending time with them.

 

A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday (July 10, 2018) at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Waverly, Il.  Visitation will be held 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly, Il. where prayer service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted by Waverly American Legion Post.  Memorials may be made to Waverly Rescue Squad c/o Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, 349 Tanner, Waverly, Il. 62692.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.airsman-hires.com.
